What is Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a gentle form of bodywork based on thousands of years of Eastern tradition. Its history dates back to the beginnings of Chinese medicine. Shiatsu originated in Japan, where it was given its current name at the beginning of the 20th century: Shiatsu – literally translated as finger pressure.
Shiatsu is massage by applying pressure to specific lines or points with the aim of harmonising the body’s own energy flow (Qi or Ki). Qi regulates all functions – body-mind-soul – and keeps them in harmony with each other. Traditional Chinese medicine assumes that harmonised energy flow does not lead to illness.
Shiatsu is a full-body treatment that is practised normally on the floor on a mat (in Rothenburg I will work on a massage table).
The Shiatsu practitioner applies gentle, deep-acting pressure with their fingers, palms, elbows or knees, depending on the client’s needs. Shiatsu techniques ranging from gentle finger pressure to stretches and rotations aim to promote the unimpeded flow of the body’s own energy.
Shiatsu stimulates the body’s own self-healing powers, but is not a substitute for a visit to the doctor or for medical or psychological treatment.
The Shiatsu treatment
During your Shiatsu treatment, I treat your entire body from head to toe. With gentle pressure from my palms, thumbs, elbows or knees, I follow the energy pathways of your body – the meridians. I also perform gentle stretches and loosening joint mobilisations. All of this stimulates the flow of energy and promotes physical and mental balance. The more freely Qi can flow, the better we feel.
Close your eyes and enjoy your treatment! Shiatsu is not intended to cause any unpleasant pain, although a ‘feeling of well-being’ is certainly desirable to help you become aware of the tense area and let go.
Shiatsu not only works on a physical level, but also addresses the person as a whole: physically – mentally – emotionally
During your treatment, ideas, thoughts, supposedly forgotten things can emerge from your subconscious and show you new ways or give you the opportunity to allow repressed feelings such as joy, tears, anger.
